The Centre for Innovations in Regional Economic Development in Africa (CiRED Africa) is a not-for-profit corporation focused on advancing economic growth and diversification through a diverse network of stakeholders in the public, private, philanthropic and academic sectors.

CiRED Africa’s mission is to facilitate cutting-edge innovations in economic development through research, events, evidence-based analysis, training and development services. We are transitioning local and regional economic development (LRED) into a distinct and self-governing profession in Africa – through entrepreneurship, innovation and transformation of ideas into commercial successes. We harness intellectual capital and the digital revolution to help small businesses access the growth opportunities in the global marketplace.

Based on a robust public-private partnership model, CiRED collaborates with local, regional and central governments; the private sector; international development agencies; chambers of commerce; universities; technical and vocational institutions; think tanks and non-governmental organizations; and other key stakeholders.

In addition to promoting and professionalizing LRED as a distinct and self-governing profession across the African continent, the Centre offers a wide variety of flexible economic development programs designed to help individuals and organizations build capacity. Our faculty is drawn from an interdisciplinary array of leading academics and economic development professionals from a variety of institutions within and outside Africa.

Our research, trainings, partnerships and other programmatic initiatives are structured to promote and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. Considering the disproportionately high representation of women in Africa’s informal economy, gender-responsive programming is at the heart of our strategy.
